Love that she signed it "with pride"! I met her at a college near Chicago in the late 1990s and it was a big deal for me. She was a woman of great integrity. Despite her awards and reputation, she always published all her books with a small Chicago publisher. No doubt her book sales allowed the press to publish other Black authors and remain viable.
